Jeraw, the one-eyed, is Sama-Tereh in the Idoih-clan.
Sama-Tereh is the second-highest grade you ever can earn in the clan, only one step under Sama-vatil, who is considered divine.
Jeraw was born with two eyes like all other elven children. He actually made his way to a high status and a good reputation in the clan. He could have became one of the youngest Sama-Tereh ever, but right before that, Shiersilk took one of his eyes during a battle. And not only his eye, but his dignity.
In the Clan, the hair of a person is considered the most beautiful part if their body. Everyone who even thinks the thought of cutting the hair on their head must have at least one thick stripe of hair from the day they were born to always save. If someone doesn't have that stripe, they are considered to be less dignified in the society than someone who is running around naked.
So what Shiersilk did during that fight was to simply cut Jeraw's hair off, he did the two most humiliating thing you can do to someone in the clan.The second most humiliating thing for anyone in the clan is to be officially seen hurt. And by taking Jeraw's eye straight in front of his minions, Jeraw was as humiliated as anyone could be.
Jeraw still hates Shiersilk for his arrogance, and is grieving bitterly that he never had the chance to get his revenge on him.The only comfort for him is that he knows that Shiersilk's son is still out there, somewhere in Lanoro.The day he finds that boy - he will get his revenge.
